mind the gap

At a time when rigorous, in-depth, and diversified news coverage is needed, there are few resources to send reporters abroad and cover topics that are more off the radar. Information is increasingly confined to European journalists sitting at their desks, with all the limitations that brings. The media landscape is becoming more homogenized, not reflecting the diversity that characterizes our world today.

Migrant journalists living in Europe can help us to change that.

MMP will bring in other voices from different regions, where a European journalist would hardly reach without effort, financial investment, and cultural barriers and challenges. They only need a computer and internet access to contact the sources they left behind. So simple as that.

But accessing European media outlets remains a challenge. Migrant journalists often feelundervalued, and they don't find room for inclusion within European newsrooms.

This gap results in a shortage of qualified jobs and an obstacle for their social integration. And ultimately, a lost opportunity for the European public.

Migrant journalists need to share their knowledge, experiences, and points of view. They need to be heard. We also need to listen. At the end we’ll all benefit from a richer and more inclusive media landscape.
